“FINTOPIANO” 1916
Giovanni Marcosignori (Castelfidardo)
This exceptional sample was made in New York by Giovanni Marcosignori – father of the the famous accordion player Gervasio (known in Italy as the poet of the accordion). Giovanni emigrated in the United States and together with Eugenio Galizzi was one of the first craftsmen to set up a workshop in New York. One of the main characteristics of this chromatic instrument is the use of celluloid to cover the body (tone chamber) of the accordion. This innovation was fundamental to open up changes in the aesthetics of the instrument. After just few years, all the domestic (Italian) and foreign makers of accordions applied this new material, made in U.S.A, on the main “body” of the instrument.
